Recent deaths 05-12-09

Kathleen Murtagh, Lismullen Mrs Kathleen Murtagh, Lismullen, Garlow Cross, passed away peacefully on 6th November last, at Tallaght Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was aged 59 and a member of the Cummins family, Trim Road, Kiltale. Her bubbly personality and bright smile were familiar to staff and customers at Trim and Delvin Marts, where she worked for 20 years. She was proud of her achievements of completing several mini-marathons over the years to raise money for local charities. Her great sense of humour and smile never faded as she bravely fought, without complaining, a long battle with illness. Mrs Murtagh is survived by her husband of 35 years, Patrick; daughters, Catriona and Karen; son, Philip; brothers, Pat, Tony, Willie and Jimmy; sisters, Angela, Bernie, Biddy and Rita; in-laws, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her daughter, Jenny; parents Patrick and Elizabeth Cummins; brothers, Ollie and Michael; and sister, May. The funeral took place from St Colmcille's Church, Skryne, to Templekiernan Cemetery. A month's memory Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday 8th December at 9am in St Colmcille's Church. ---------------------------------------------------------- Elizabeth Dunphy, Walterstown Much sadness was occasioned by the recent death of Mrs Elizabeth (Liz) Dunphy, Skryne Road, Walterstown, at Knightsbridge Nursing Centre, Trim, on 5th November last. Aged 41, deceased took great pride and enjoyment in her family and friends, and her great positive attitude to life was an inspiration to all who knew her. Mrs Dunphy is survived by her husband, Michael; son, Aaron; daughter, Caoimhe; father, John Fee, Blacklion, Co Cavan; sisters, brothers, in-laws, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, relatives and a large circle of friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Tessie. The funeral took place from the Church of the Assumption, Walterstown, to Mountown Cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place in Walterstown Church on Friday 4th December at 8pm. ---------------------------------------------------------- Frank Bird, Cannistown The death occurred unexpectedly recently of Mr Frank Bird senior, Cannistown, Navan. Aged 60, he had worked for many years in Tara Mines and later drove the hearse for Fitzsimons Undertakers for many years. Deceased will be remembered for his love of cycling and would often cycle 30 or 40 miles in a day. He was a talented man who could turn his hands to making anything and much of the garden furniture at his home he made himself. A keen gardener, he cultivated his roses and tended to his potatoes. Not one to throw anything away, he found a use for everything, even planting potatoes in an old bath. A quiet and unassuming man, Mr Bird enjoyed his weekly Thursday drink in the town with his friends and would sometimes take the bus to Trim to enjoy that town's hospitality. He is survived by his wife, Breda; family, Sandra, Frank junior, Elizabeth, Margaret, David and Daniel; grandchildren, Shirley, Jamie, Michael, Kelly, Aaron, Amy and Alex with another grandchild due in December. Deceased will be remembered as a man of extreme honour, kindness and a great deal of pride in his children's and grandchildren's achievements. The funeral Mass took place in St Mary's Church on the 14th November and he was laid to rest with his parents in Nobber cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place in St Mary's Church at 11am on Sunday 13th December next. ---------------------------------------------------------- Mamie Ging, Ballivor There was much sadness over a wide area following the death of Ms Mamie Ging, Glack, Ballivor, on 12th November last, at the age of 75. A daughter of the late James and May Ging, deceased was a native of Glack and was a homekeeper. Ms Ging was the holder of a gold pin with the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, a member of the local active retirement group and the Ballivor Horse Show committee. Deceased is survived by her brother, Joe; sister, Carmel; sister-in-law, Camilla; brother-in-law, Frank; nieces, Lorraine, Dolores and Jacinta; nephews, James, Camillus, Brendan and Lorcan; grandnieces, grand-nephews and a large circle of cousins, friends and neighbours. She passed away in the care of niece, Lorraine, and Caroline, wife of James. Her remains were removed to St Columbanus Church with burial following funeral Mass to Killaconnigan cemetery. ---------------------------------------------------------- John Smith, Gormanston There was widespread sadness in the Gormanston and Stamullen areas and within the local GAA club St Patrick's GFC at the recent death of Mr John Smith of Delvin Road, Gormanston. Deceased, who was a native of County Fermanagh, worked with the Irish Defence Forces for over 35 years, most of which was served in Gormanston Army Barracks. Mr Smith was very proud of his family's GAA connections. His daughter, Angela McQuillan, is the official registrar of St Patrick's GFC, and his son-in-law, Michael McQuillan, is the former All Ireland-winning goalkeeper with Meath. Deceased was grandfather to two former club players, Alan Smith and Conor Martin as well as present underage footballer, Keith McQuillan. He is survived by his wife, Una, a member of the Walsh family from nearby Tubbersool, whose father Peter Walsh was chairman of the old Stamullen GAA Club. They had a family of 13. Mr Smith will be remembered as a happy, jolly man, always with a kind and friendly word to say about everyone he knew and met, and he will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His popularity was evident by the large crowd who attended the removal to St Patrick's Church Stamullen, and burial in Moorechurch Cemetery.
