Top award for Meath Chronicle Print

Meath Chronicle Print (MCP), the Celtic Media Group's newspaper printing arm, picked up the accolade for best printed regional newspaper at the annual Irish Print Awards, which took place in Dublin last week. The Irish Print Awards, now in their 32nd year, were celebrated at a glamorous ceremony held in Dublin's Four Seasons Hotel last Friday, 20th November. Meath Chronicle Print, based at Mullaghboy Industrial Estate, Navan, picked up the Manroland Ireland Award for Regional Papers for its printing of the Cork News. Group operations director for printing, Bill Paterson, said MCP had taken the award with a recently won contract print title, the Cork News. The win, he added, was a recognition of the quality achieved in newspaper printing by an experienced and committed staff. The Irish Printer magazine, which annually organises the awards, received hundreds of entries, with 36 companies making the final cut in a number of categories. The awards, which are judged by independent experts in the print sector, are a key recognition of quality in the printing of newspapers, magazines, books and commercial print work. Referring to the high standard of entries submitted, Gráinne Burns, editor of Irish Printer, said that this was a testament to the quality produced by the Irish print industry. "This year we were again astonished by the excellence in quality of print and design of each entry and these awards demonstrate the high quality of work produced by Irish print companies all around the country. Given the current difficult trading conditions, it is also a testament to the industry that companies do not compromise on quality of printed material for their customers," she said. Mark Phillips of MCP was also a finalist in the Xerox Ireland Award for Print Manager of the Year 2009, which was won by Alistair White of Chesapeake, Belfast.
