Navan premiere for Deirdre Kinahan drama

Meath-based playwright Deirdre Kinahan, artistic director of Tall Tales Theatre Company, has been commissioned by Solstice Arts Centre with support from the Arts Council, to write a new play to be produced at the centre where Tall Tales is Theatre-in-Residence. The production, 'Moment' is an explosive new drama that explores how one action can change a life forever. It will have its premiere in Navan, giving Meath audiences the first opportunity to see this top quality piece of new writing from Thursday 12th to Saturday 14th November before touring to the Project Arts Centre in Dublin. Kinahan has written many plays for Tall Tales Theatre Company including 'Melody', 'Hue & Cry' and 'Maisy Daly's Rainbow', which have played at Solstice Arts Centre to critical acclaim. Her many plays have toured and performed nationally and internationally to the US, the UK, Romania, Bulgaria and France. She is also currently under commission from the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. Some local theatre professionals have been presented with unique opportunities to work on the production of the Moment, bringing it from page to stage. Working closing with the director, David Horan, as assistant director is Navan actress Deirdre Doyle. A graduate of Theatre Studies from Inchicore College, the young actress has secured parts on screen, including 'The Tudors' and also on stage, performing in Navan Theatre Group's production of 'Sunstroke'. The sound and music for the production is designed by Navan musician Alun Smyth, who also designed the incidental music for another Tall Tales production, A Lady of Letters. Alun, aka 'Minty', performs regularly in Navan with his band Minty and the Freshmen. Trim designer Maree Kearns is the set designer for Moment. Maree has had a very successful career designing costumes and sets for theatre and film including NOMAD Theatre Network's production of Pat McCabe's play 'The Dead School' for which she received an Irish Times Irish Theatre Award nomination. She was also the assistant art director on the set of The Tudors and was design co-ordinator at the Abbey and Peacock Theatre. Moment is fast, frighteningly real and at times very funny. Tickets for Moment are on sale now and are available from Solstice box office on 046 909 2300 or online at www.solsticeartscentre.ie.
