Garda appeal after woman in Slane left shaken by burglary ordeal

An elderly woman was left badly shaken after an aggravated burglary at her home in Cashel, Slane, on Tuesday afternoon of last week. A man aged 18-20 called to the woman's home at around 4.45pm looking for directions and the woman was unable to help him. He was wearing a jacket with a hood. He left but returned five minutes later with another male, aged 18-20, who was wearing a black hooded top and had reddish brown stubble. They were both described as about 5ft 10in in height and of stocky build. The man with the stubble grabbed the woman and forced her back into the house. The men searched the rooms in the house and demanded money. They took a small amount of cash from the lady's purse and left on foot. Gardai have conducted house-to-house enquires and a technical examination of the house was carried out. Anybody with any information on the incident or who noticed anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact Slane Garda Station on (041) 982 4202. Meanwhile, Navan Gardai are investigating an assault on a taxi driver outside The Palace Bar in Navan, at around 3am on Saturday. It is understood that an altercation occurred between a male and a female who got into the taxi and the driver asked them to get out. The male refused and hit the driver, who suffered a nasty cut under his eye and was brought to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, for treatment. The male and female are believed to be in their late teens or early twenties. They left the scene, walking up Church Hill and into Bakery Lane. Gardai say they could be from the Dunshaughlin area, as this is where they asked the taxi driver to bring them before the altercation occurred. There were a lot of people in the area at the time and Gardai are asking anyone noticed the couple or who know who they are to contact Navan Garda Station on (046) 902 1445.
