Nostalgia at Dunboyne motorsport festival

Dunboyne Motor Club delivered an action-packed weekend for the Spirit of Dunboyne Revival which is now in its fourth year. The event is going from strength-to-strength and this year crowds turned out in their thousands to get a taste of what the village was like during the era when the annual motor races took place in the 1950s and '60s. Saturday started with a car treasure hunt and bike poker run both of which finished up in the village in time for a music festival in Brady's car park which featured many local bands. The clock was turned back again on Sunday with the old cars and bikes arriving along with straw bales, an old timing box, bunting and much more from the bygone era. It was great to get the sounds and smells from the machines (memories of Castrol R) The Road Safety Association Simulator, Jordan Formula 1 Car, a Royal Enfield Diesel Motorbike along with lots of family entertainment on the green kept the large crowds entertained. The motorbike parade laps featured over 70 machines on the grid including Luke Lawlor, Billy McCosh, Len Ireland and Owen O'Reilly.Lawlor commented "It is great to still have the Dunboyne Circuit remembered, its revival means a lot to enthusiasts," commented Lawlor. Familiar faces participated in the car parade laps with Rosemary Smith, Robin Rennicks, Reg Plunkett and Historic Racing Car Association president David Millar all present for the trip down memory lane. "I look forward to this event every year, it's great to meet up with pals and chat about the many memories from the racing we did here," stated Rennicks.
