Latest local election news

Counting finally concluded late last night in the Meath County Council election with Fine Gael taking 11 seats, Fianna Fail taking eight, Labour taking four, Sinn Fein took one seat and five Independents have been elected. Eoin Holmes (LAB), Sirena Campbell (FG), Jimmy Cudden (IND), Seamus O'Neill (IND), Ann Dillon-Gallagher (FG) and Wayne Harding (FF) were elected in the Slane area. Sitting councillors Pat Boshell (FF) and Tom Kelly (GP) lost their seats. In the Trim area Ray Butler (FG), Jimmy Fegan (FF), Bill Carey (FG) and Tracy McElhinney (LAB) won seats. Sitting councillors Seamus Murray (FF) and Phil Cantwell (IND) lost their seats. In the Kells area, Bryan Reilly (FF), Catherine Yore (FG), John Farrelly (FG), Oliver Fox (FF) and Eugene Cassidy (FG) were elected. Meath County Council's outgoing Cathaoirleach Liz McCormack (FF) has lost her seat. The Dunshaughlin area line-up includes Brian Fitzgerald (IND), Nick Killian (FF), Regina Doherty (FG), Maria Murphy (FG), Niamh McGowan (LAB) and Noel Leonard (FF). In the Navan area seats went to: Francis Deane (IND), Joe Reilly (SF), Jim Holloway (FG), Suzanne Jamal (FG), Jenny McHugh (LAB), Tommy Reilly (FF), and Shane Cassells (FF). Overall, Fianna Fail have lost four seats, Fine Gael gained two, Labour gained three, a fifth seat went to an independent, Sinn Fein lost a seat and the Green Party lost their only councillor. The following candidates were elected to Trim Town Council: Ray Butler (FG), Trevor Golden (IND), Gerry Reilly (FG), Ronan McKenna (FF), James O'Shea (LAB), Donall O'Brien (LAB), Phil Cantwell (IND) and William Fay (FG). The following were candidates were elected to Kells Town Council: Sarah Reilly (FG), Bryan Reilly (FF), Sean Drew (FF), Brian Curran (FF), Brian Collins (LAB), Conor Ferguson (SF), Oliver Sweeney (FG), Frankie Lynch (FF) and Tommy Grimes (LAB). The following candidates were elected to Navan Town Council: Francis Deane (IND), Anton McCabe (LAB), Joe Reilly (SF), Jim Holloway (FG), Suzanne Jamal (FG), Phil Brennan (IND), Shane Cassells (FF) Peader Toibin (SF) and Padraig Fitzsimons (FF).
