Recent deaths 30-05-09

His many friends and acquaintances throughout Meath and beyond were saddened to learn of the recent death of Mr Tom (Tomás) Harney, 7 Fana Rua, Kingscourt, which recently occurred at his home. He was aged 57. A native of Ballinasloe, Co Galway, he was a former Bank of Ireland official and manager who served in both Navan and Kingscourt for 32 years. A past pupil of Garbally College in Ballinasloe, he worked for Bank of Ireland for 15 years in Navan before transferring to Kingscourt where he spent a further 20 years before retiring in 2002. He was heavily involved in the establishment of the Meath Sheletered Workshop (now MIDWAY) while in Navan and was very active in the fundraising campaign for it from its inception. He was a big fan of Meath football, Liverpool FC and trained underage footballers in Kingscourt during his time there. A much-loved man by all who knew him, the esteem in which he was held was borne out by the large attendance at the removal of his remains and funeral. Deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs Muriel Harney; children, Rebecca, Aidan, Conor and Liz; mother, Mrs Julia Harney; brothers, Adrian, Padraig, Oliver and Declan; sister, Mary, and grandchildren, Clodagh and Daniel. The funeral took place from the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Kingscourt, to the adjoining cemetery. ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ Sheila McGrath, Lobinstown Mrs Sheila McGrath, Bengerstown, Lobinstown, Navan, who died recently in Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, was widow of the late Mr James McGrath, who passed away in 1988. Aged 83, the late Mrs McGrath (nee Duff) was a native of Lobinstown. Deceased is survived by her son, Declan McGrath; daughter, Catherine McGrath; brother, Matt Duff; daughter-in-law, Mary McGrath, and grandchildren, Claire and Mark McGrath. The funeral took place from Holy Cross Church, Lobinstown, to the adjoining cemetery. ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ John Tevlin, Dulane Much sadness was occasioned by the recent passing of Mr John Tevlin, Dulane, Kells, at Our Lady"s Hospital, Navan. A native of Dulane, Mr Tevlin (76) was a farmer. He was predeceased by his wife, Daisy (Margaret), in 2003. Mr Tevlin had a great interest in antique tractor restoration and was highly skilled. He was a successful farmer and also owned a small bus company and was well-known for driving tours and undertaking school bus runs. He also played football for Dulane in his younger days. Deceased is survived by his sons, JJ and Matthew; daughter, Margaret; daughters-in-law, Regina and Emma; granddaughters, Jackie and Shannon, and grandson, Shane. The funeral took place from St Colmcille"s Church, Kells, to St Colmcille"s Cemetery. ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ Mollie Tevlin, Dulane The regretted death occurred recently at Our Lady"s Hospital, Navan, of Ms Mollie Tevlin, Dulane, Kells. A native of Dulane, Ms Tevlin (84) was a daughter of Phil and Margaret Tevlin, and worked as a doctor"s secretary. She and her sister, Kathleen, left their home in Dulane in the 1960s to pursue careers in England. When they retired having not married, they came back to the family farm and built a new home. They both lived happily there in their retirement for over 20 years. Kathleen died seven years ago and Ms Tevlin remained at home until two years ago when she went into the care of St Joseph"s Hospital, Trim. She enjoyed good health and excellent care in St Joseph"s until the last few months, when her health deteriorated. Deceased is survived by her nephews, JJ and Matthew Tevlin; niece, Margaret Tevlin, and other relatives. Her remains were removed to Mullaghea Church and the funeral Mass took place there prioer to burial in St Colmcille"s Cemetery, Kells. ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ Maria Muyllaert, Belgium The death occurred recently of Mrs Maria Muyllaert, Antwerp, Belgium, at the age of 86. A mother to Herman, Jan, Rita, Greta, Mia, Mark and Koen, she is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Widowed at the age of 50 with a large family, Mrs Muyllaert managed to cope with the help from and devotion to Our Lady of Lourdes. A month"s mind Mass has been kindly arranged by neighbours and friends of Jan Muyllaert, Boyerstown, Navan, which will take place at Boyerstown Church this Friday at 8pm. ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ Lawrence (Larry) Wright, Donore, Longwood The death occurred recently of Lawrence (Larry) Wright (86), late of Donore, Longwood and Athbooy. Mr Wright died on 22nd April at Hatfield Road, St Albans, England. He was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Wright, RIP, Athboy. Remains were removed to St James"s Church, then St James"s Cemetery, Athboy, on 9th May last, with requiem Mass also celebrated on that date. In attendance were Mrs Ann McConville, sister, Stamullen; Mr Christy Wright, brother, Beechlawn, Athboy; Mr Brian McConville, brother-in-law, Stamullen; nieces, nephews, especially Kevin and Marina; cousins and all his hurling friends, Boardsmill. While a native of Athboy, Larry came to live with his granny Patrica and Annie Smith, Donore, Longwood. At about the age of 10, he had developed a love for the game of hurling and played for a few years with Killyon. With a little encouragement, he moved down to play with Boardsmill and he was outstanding for them in the Junior Hurling Championships Semifinal of 1947, scoring 2-3 from the centre forward position. He again played a major part in the final when Boardsmill won their first ever championships against Salesian College, Waranstown, that same year. This brought him to the notice of people who were over the Meath Hurling Team at that time and, in 1948, he was on the panel that started out in the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championships and very soon gained a permanent position on the team and made a major contribution to Meath winning the Junior All-Ireland of 1948. He played a few more years with Meath and Boardsmill before moving to St Albans, England. It was his love of hurling that got him involved in St Albans. Certainly his moving to England was a big loss to Boardsmill and Meath. ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ Ronnie Coogan, Navan The regretted death occurred at his home on 18th May last of Mr Ronnie Coogan, Woodview, Trim Road, Navan. Mr Coogan, who was 62, was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 1999. A native of Hurdlestown, Kells, he was a carpenter and was very well-known in Navan town where he was well-respected for his craftmanship in carpentry. Deceased is survived by his sons, Declan, Patrick, John and Mark; daughter, Rosemary; brothers, Ollie and Dan; sister, Grainne; grandchildren, Katelyn and Mia; nieces, nephews and other relatives. The funeral took place from St Mary"s Church, Navan, to Martry Cemetery.
