Trim ladies raise €11,800 for special needs club

Trim Ladies" Circle hosted a very successful fundraising lunch at Trim Castle Hotel last Saturday, garnering €11,800 in the process for Trim Arch Club. The ladies were more than a little surprised and delighted with the special guest appearance by world record-breaking comedian Tommy Tiernan who gave generously of his time to support Trim Arch Club and make the day a complete success. Trim Arch Club provides a social outlet for young people aged 16 and upwards with intellectual disabilities/special needs and the club was the sole beneficiary of the proceeds of the event. Local Trim businessman, Barry Gillen, of Texaco/Londis was the main sponsor for the lunch and other sponsors included Keegan Quarries, Cregan Locksmiths, Kiely's Butchers, Ebony Fashions, Sage & Stone, Gemini Printing, David Moore Photography, Nivea, Knightsbrook Hotel & Spa and Trim Castle Hotel, and many other businesses in the locality also gave kindly. The 120 women who attended the lunch, together with the sponsors, helped raise €11,800 and thoroughly enjoyed the good food and fantastic location of Trim Castle Hotel. Navan comedian Tommy Tiernan was at his best entertaining the Meath women, and helping with fundraising. The lunch was rounded off perfectly with the local talent of Gerry Tully. Trim Ladies" Circle has been active for the past eight years and, during that time, has raised some €130,000 for many worthy causes. The club is primarily a social outlet, but they also have lots of fun raising money for worthy causes. The 19 members have also hosted a ball, two successful ladies" lunches and two casino nights and they have also completed mini-marathons, and designed and sold Christmas cards. From the proceeds, Trim Ladies" Circle has financed the establishment of Teentext Meath (run by the ISPCA), purchased learning equipment for Trim Autism Unit, paid for the decorating of a day room in the Alzheimer"s Unit in St Joseph"s Hospital, Trim; made significant monetary donations to Aware and Make a Wish Foundation, and kitted out a sensory room for Enable Ireland at St Joseph"s Hospital. The Ladies" Circle annually contributes to Women"s Refuge, Navan, and Meals on Wheels in Trim and made a one-off donation towards financing volunteers to go to build orphanages in Moldova and assisted a local child"s medical expenses to America. In 2008 President McAleese visited Trim and met with members, commending them on being proactive within the community.
