Retirees pack hotel for night out

Some 600 members of active retirement clubs from around Meath and the surrounding areas attended a very successful social night in Trim"s Knightsbrook Hotel on Wednesday evening of last week. The event was organised and hosted by Trim Active Retirement, which was overwhelmed by the response to the sell-out event. Organiser Ann Murtagh said the idea was to bring all the different active retirement groups together for a night out and that a total of 24 different groups from Navan, Drogheda, Dunshaughlin, Ashbourne, Kilcock, Oldcastle, Ratoath, Swords, Killucan, Ballivor, Beauparc, Moynalty, Bohermeen, Dunboyne, Kells, Kilmessan, Rathmolyon, Duleek, Longwood and Wilkinstown had come along. Entertainment was provided on the night by Gold & Silver, Gwen Bagnall, Ann Galligan, Sister Act and Tom Fitzsimons. Mrs Murtagh said it had been a wonderful occasion with dinner, dancing and singing and that it had been great to see so many groups together. She thanked Knightsbrook Hotel for the wonderful evening and all who contributed to making the night such a success. There was an overwhelming demand for tickets and the event was a complete sell-out. President Mary McAleese has sent a letter to Trim Active Retirement Group to congratulate them on organising the event. She said that active retirement groups play a vital part in many communities in extending the hand of friendship to older people who might otherwise lack the opportunity to meet. President McAleese congratulated Trim Active Retirement Group on its success over the last 24 years and wished the group every good wish for the future.
