'Arrogant Kells cllrs have a cheek" regarding tolls

Dear Sir - I cannot believe the sheer cheek and arrogance of the Kells Town councillors in their attitude to the tolls on the new M3 Motorway. These tolls are nothing new. As far back as 1999 when the plans for this motorway were brought into the public arena, the NRA advised that it was going to be a tolled road. While the majority of the Irish people, and indeed people worldwide, were horrified at plans to force a motorway through what must be the most important historical site in Ireland, what did the town councillors in towns along the proposed route do? The answer is nothing. They sat in their council chambers and with the support of our Government allowed thousands of years of history be destroyed. Now that the chickens have come home to roost and the same councillors realise that their constituents are going to have to pay thousands of euros for the privilege of driving on this road, they begin to feign concern. They say that the NRA owe it to the people of Kells to meet with the councillors. What good this would do, I have absolutely no idea. The NRA are in the business of making money; they care not a whit for the hard-pressed Irish motoring public who will pay through the nose for driving on an unwarranted and unnecessary road. Yours, Jimmy Rafter, Hill of Tara.
