Athboy fundraising for Niall Mellon Trust

The Leaving Certificate Applied students in Athboy Community School were recently visited by Kildalkey man Alan Davis, who is taking part in the Niall Mellon Township Trust Challenge in South Africa this week. Alan explained to the students what the Niall Mellon Trust is involved with and showing of a DVD of the work that all their volunteers do when the they go out to South Africa to improve housing conditions in the shanty towns. The volunteers, who go to South Africa, work around the clock from the minute they arrive so as to get as much done in the 10 days they are there for. This year, 2,008 people are going out to work with the charity and each volunteer needs to raise €5,000 before they go which goes towards materials for building houses to replace the shanties. At the end of Alan"s visit, the LCA classes agreed to raise money by selling lines of sponsorship and Alan Davis returned to the school to be presented with a cheque for €700 towards his work in South Africa.
