Gold for Meath athletes

Two Meath athletes finished in gold medal positions at the Noel McGill Cross-Country championships at Dunleer on Sunday. Dunshaughlin"s Shauna Moran claimed top spot in the u-17 race while her club colleagues Paddy Mangan took first in the over-45 race and third overall with Dominic Moran finishing second in the over-45 race and seventh overall. Nineteen club athletes were honoured for their outstanding performance at provincial, national and international track and field events through the year at the Cushinstown AC annual award night. The club also honoured its longest serving members, Patsy Gough, Dessie Gough, Paddy Joyce and Billy Flanagan. Club chairman Noel Fanning made a special presentation to Lisa Callaghan who represented Ireland at the Paralympic games in Beijing this year. The u-11 girls were second overall in the Leinster team event with Ornagh Reynolds successful in the ball throw and third in the relay. She was also first in the ball throw at the All-Ireland while Clare O"Neill won the 80-metre sprint, Sinead Reynolds was third in the relay and Elizabeth Morland won the ball throw and 80-metre sprint. Not to be outdone the boys u-11 team also took first place in the Leinster team event with Shane Joyce second in the 60-metre hurdles, shot putt, long jump and as part of the relay team. At the All-Ireland championships Joyce was second in the long jump, while Eoin Reynolds was second in the shot putt and in the relay event. Sean McCann came second in the 80-metres sprint and secondnd in relay at the Leinster team event. Keith Marks won the high jump and was third in the high jump and relay, he was also second in the long jump at the All-Ireland championships. Heather Jameson, who attended the Cerebral Palsy Sports Nation Championships in Santry, came first in the 60-metres sprint, 100-metres, 200-metres and in the ball throw. Niamh Reynolds finished third in the u-14 Leinster indoors long jump, 200 metres and second in outdoor long jump. Bronagh Fanning was second in the u-14 Leinster indoors high jump and first at Meath Community Games. Nail Flanagan came fourth in u-15 Leinster outdoors 100-metres and first in 100-metres at the Meath Championship. Paul Bannon claimed second in the u-16 Leinster outdoors high jump and third in the Leinster indoors high jump. Shauna Leech"s impressive u-16 haul included fourth in the discus and third in Javelin at the All-Ireland Schools Championships. She also finished first in the discus and second in javelin at Leinster School Championships as well as first in the javelin at the Meath Community Games. Shane Crawley took second in the u-17 Leinster indoors high jump, second in the North Leinster Schools" high jump and first in the Meath Community Games. Katie Moore enjoyed a great year by taking third in the u-18 1500-metres, second in the high jump and fourth in the 60-metre hurdles at the Leinster Indoor championships. Grace O"Sullivan took first in the Leinster outdoor javelin competition with a personal best of 36.86 metres. She also came second in the All-Ireland and represented club and school at the Celtic games. Grace O"Sullivan also won the javelin event at the North Leinster Schools and was second in the Leinster schools championships. Lucy O"Sullivan won the Leinster indoor junior women 3000m walk, was third in the shot putt and third in the hurdles and represented the club and county in the National League. She was third at All-Ireland Schools" and Leinster Schools" walk and won the North Leinster Schools" walk competition.
