Nobber man who had lot of drink is fined €250

A NOBBER man trespassed at a Slane Road, Navan, house after his car keys were taken from him when he had a lot of drink at a disco and "was trying to find a friend's house", Navan Court heard last week.

Mr Jimmy Walsh, solicitor, entered a guilty plea to trespassing at the house at Fitzherbert Court on 3rd March last on behalf of Ciaran McConnell (27), 1, Muff Crescent, Nobber.

His client had "a lot of drink taken" and had no way home at the time that he could not find the friend's house, said Mr Walsh.

Inspector Pat Gannon said that simple trespass was involved and the defendant had a previous public order conviction in 2006. Judge John Brophy fined McConnell €250.

Vilmantas Kokanskis (19), 4, Abbeylands, Navan, was fined €634 for breaching the peace and €126 for being drunk when he failed to appear in court. Garda Gareth McArdle told the court of arresting the defendant in Trimgate Street following a disturbance in Kennedy Road, where he found Kokanskis in an "aggressive and threatening state" of drunkenness and arrested him following a short chase. The man had no previous convictions.

Joan Briggs (23), 139, Canterbrook, Trim Road, Navan, was fined €126 for being drunk and €250 for breaching the peace at Clonmagadden Fort, Proudstown Road, on 2nd February last after she pleaded guilty through her solicitor, Mr Oliver Shanley.

Inspector Pat Gannon said that she was reported to have been knocking on doors and "causing hassle" while she caused another racket when told by gardai to move on, but she had no previous convictions.

Mr Shanley said that his client had a two-and-a-half-year-old child and was doing a FAS course. She had a drink problem, he added, to which Judge Brophy responded that she should have "more sense".

Clement Keavney (19), 12, Abbeylands Crescent, Navan, was fined €126 for being drunk and €250 for breaching the peace at Boyne View, Johnstown Wood, on 10th February last after he pleaded guilty to both offences. Prosecuting Garda John Bohan told the court that he found Keavney at 4 am and the defendant had no previous convictions.

Anthony McKenna (37), 22, Mornington Heights, Trim, was fined €250 for breaching the peace at Dean Cogan Place, Navan, on 10th January last and had a related summons for refusing a garda demand to quit the area taken into consideration, after he entered a guilty plea to the first offence through his solicitor, Mr James Murphy.

Garda Anthony Brady said that he found McKenna shouting at residents there at 4.10 am and later arrested him. The defendant was "no chicken and should have more sense", said the judge, while Mr Murphy said that the behaviour was "a small slip, a bit of exuberance" when the defendant was at his parents home.

Patrick Smith (43), Ma Dwyers, Dublin Road, Navan, was fined €126 for being drunk at Cornmarket on 27th February last after Garda Donal Barrett said that he found him lying on the footpath there.

Pat O'Dea (51), 12, St Olivers Cottages, Blackcastle, Navan, was fined €250 when his solicitor, Ms Patricia Holohan, entered a guilty plea to a summons to failing to quit Trimgate Street on 14th July last year.

Inspector Gannon said that the defendant had claimed that there had been "a big GAA match".

Ms Holohan said that her client was a plasterer currently awaiting surgery and was not working. He "did not remember" being charged and she successfully applied for free legal aid for him.
