Colm Carney in action for Cosmos against Thomastown Utd today.

Cup pain for Cosmos in shoot-out

Hopes of making it through to a glamour die against Shamrock Rovers in the Leinster Senior Cup ended for Navan Cosmos at a murky MDL today.

Derek Coogan's side agonisingly lost out 4-3 to the Kilkenny side in a penalty shoot-out.

It looked good for the Cosmos after 23 minutes when they netted through Conor Walsh.

However the Kilkenny side kept battling away and they were rewarded for their persistence just before the end of normal time when they equalised through Gary Monks.

In extra-time there were precious few chances for either side although Cosmos could have stolen it near the end when Paul Delaney delivered an inch-perfect cross and Colm Carney just failed to get a touch in front of the goals.

It went to a shoot-out but Thomastown held their nerve to progress to the next stage against the famous Hoops.
