Oldcastle Utd under investigation following incidents on Sunday

It hasn't been a great few weeks for North East Football Leage Div 2 side Oldcastle Utd with officials of the club now facing some uncertainty about participation for the 2016 / 2017 season.

Last night at a NEFL disciplinary meeting the reasons for the non-appearance of the club's first team for a game against Navan Town in Div 2 a couple of weeks ago was under the spotlight.

However, the issue was further complicated arising out of incidents that were reported from a home game against Trim Town last Sunday.

The NEFL committee was informed that an Oldcastle supporter and a player, who had been red-carded and subsequently re-entered the field of play, became involved with some Trim Town Players.

It is also alleged that a further exchange, in which an Oldcastle player was involved, resulted in a Trim Town player going to hospital to receive attention, both medical and dental.

It is also understood that a separate Trim Town player was also treated in hospital for a hand injury.

As a result of those alleged incidents, coupled with the non-appearance of the team for the game against Navan Town, the NEFL has deferred any decision pending further investigations.

'It was felt that an application for affiliation next season would have to be carefully scrutinised before acceptance - if at all,' commented a spokesperson for the NEFL.

'A decision on the specifics of any pre-conditions, or otherwise, was deferred until next Week's meeting.

'The overall decision shall be in conjunction with the results of further necessary investigations concerning alleged assaults on Trim Town players on Sunday 8th May.

'It is also noted that the club has a general poor disciplinary record this season and that one player has been red carded on four occasions,' added the spokesperson.
