Wolfe Tones celebrate after today's victory over Summerhill.

Tones prove too strong for the 'Hill

There was goals galore and plenty of thrills as Wolfe Tones defeated Summerhill 4-12 to 2-16  in the MFC Div 2 final replay at Pairc Tailteann today.

The outcome of a highly entertaining encounter was decided in the 60th minute when Wofe Tones forward Evan Corrigan punched the ball to the net in a crowded goalmouth to put his team two points ahead.

Liam Shaw subsequently pointed from a free for Summerhill to leave just the minimum between the sides. However the 'Hill were unable to conjure up an equaliser like they did in the drawn game and Tones went home with the silverware.

Wolfe Tones, managed by Cathal O Bric, led most of the way including the half-time break when they were ahead 3-4 to 2-6 with goals scored by Caolan Ward (penalty), O Fionnagian and Even Corrigan while Kiah Hussey and Shaw netted for Summerhill.

Shaw's effort was remarkable in that the he hit the ball from distance and it ended up escaping the clutches of Wolfe Tones 'keeper Laochra O Fionnagain and ended up in the net. Earlier O Fionngain made a super point-blank save from Summerhill's Jamie O'Shea.

In the second-half both sides enjoyed spells of dominance but Summerhill looked to be on the way to victory until Saran O Fionnagain punched down for Evan Corrigan to strike with his late, late goal.

In the exciting closing stages Oisin Corrigan of Wolfe Tones was sent off picking up a second yellow but his team survived that setback to claim the honours.
