Navan slump in AIL Div 2B home opener

Navan failed to build on last week's AIL Div 2B opening round win on the road when they were beaten by Rainey Old Boys at Balreask Old yesterday afternoon.

Last week Navan enjoyed a good win against Belfast Harlequins and were aiming to build on that success in their first home game of the season.

However, Rainey Old Boys laid the foundations for victory in the opening half and were ahead by 17-3 at the interval.

Navan lost further ground after the resumption, but then made a gallant effort to get back into the game closing the gap gradually.

On this occasion there was no reprieve and the only consolation was a bonus point.

(Belfast Harlequins lost yesterday to a City of Derry side that lost last week by 68 points (3-71)

ASHBOURNE

A delayed Leinster League start saw Ashbourne kick-off this week and they started with a win.

The Meath side took the points at home to Enniscorthy with an 18-10 victory.

Typically very slow to find form in the league, Ashbourne managed to carry their unbeaten run from pre-season into this game.

See the Chronicle on Tuesday for reports on both games.
