Irish Baseball team warms up for Euros in Ashbourne

The Irish National Baseball team will try to go one better than their brothers-in-arms from the football when they travel to Slovenia for the European Baseball Championships at the end of the month, but first they will compete with teams from the USA and Venezuela in a warm-up tournament at the Ashbourne International Baseball Centre from today (Thursday 7th July) to Sunday 10th July.

Irish manager Sean Mitchell said: “We’re going to Slovenia with the aim of reaching the final and securing promotion to the next level of European Championships, and the games against American and Venezuelan opposition will be a perfect test for our players.”

The Ashbourne International Baseball Festival will open at 1.30pm on Thursday 7th July with two games each day.

Entry is free and food and drinks will be available from concession stands.

Teams competing are: Bruins Baseball Alumni (USA), Ireland, The President’s Nine All-Star Team and a Venezuelan Selection.
