Big race win for Barry Geraghty

Drumree man Barry Geraghty was back in the winners' enclosure today at Galway for his boss JP McManus, but this time it was for the feature €300,000 Galway Hurdle which up until today had eluded the Meath jockey.

After only returning to action from injury on Monday with the opening winner of the Festival, today's success was his third at the when he got Tigris River up almost on the line to edge out Swamp Fox for a neck win.

Airlie Beach five lengths away in third and the Noel Meade-trained Joey Sasa a little over three lengths further back in fourth for Meath owners Eamonn Duignan and Bernard Woods.

The Dessie McDonogh-trained Morga was fifth for the Moynalty handler, but it wasn't such a good outing for Morga's jockey Ben Dalton who was handed a rather harsh two racing days ban by the stewards for weighing in 1.2lbs overweight. Morga got into the race as second reserve this morning.

For Geraghty, it ended a long spell waiting to win the big Thursday feature at Galway.

In 2015 Geraghty looked like he was going to win the race with the Tony Martin-trained Thomas Edison (owned by JP McManus also), but the duo crashed out at the last when disputing the lead as Martin's Quick Jack took the honours.
