Flame burns opposition for Fox

Ardcath jockey Ger Fox made a worthwhile trip to Tamore on New Year's Day where he partnered the Noel Meade trained Brightest Flame, wearing blinkers for the first time, to victory in a maiden hurdle.

The Meade runner was sent off the 2/1 second favourite and settled in behind the leaders before going for his race coming down the hill to the second last.

Fox appeared to have plenty in hand and won by some 20 lengths from 6/4 favourite Berry Des Aulmes which made it a Gigginstown one-two.

'The blinkers were a big help, the softer ground and the stiff track also helped. The undulations just sweetened him up a bit,' commeted the jockey in a post
-race interview.
