Robbie Power steers Big Zeb home at Navan
Ridden by Summerhill's Robbie Power the Queen Mother Champion Chase runner-up Big Zeb came up trumps following an absorbing three-way tussle with Noble Prince and Forpadydeplasterer to win a third consecutive Fortria Chase at Navan on Sunday afternoon. Forpadydeplasterer, who made most of the running, looked to have nothing more to give once Big Zeb (2-1) took the lead two out, but he did not give in easily, while young pretender Noble Prince, sent off the even-money favourite, also put in a strong bid. However, Power's mount was most determined and got the verdict by two lengths from Noble Prince. "I would have loved to have been going a couple of gears quicker. He was jumping so well and I was taking him back after every fence, he has a great cruising speed. He idled when he got to the front. He is 10 years of age, but he still has plenty of ability," said Power. Power wasn't the only Meath connection to visit the winners enclosure at Navan on Sunday. Ashbourne's Andrew Lynch made his way to the first post in the enclosure after he guided Voler La Vedette to a three length success over Paul Carberry's Fully Funded which was trained by Noel Meade in the second race on the card, the €37,500 Lismullen Grade 2 Hurdle. Meade made amends for his disappointment by claiming first and second in the two-mile third race, the 'For Auction' Novice Hurdle, worth €27,500. Davy Russell completed the steering job on board the 13/8 favourite Il Fenomeno who finished a length ahead of Carberry's Dylan Ross. Russell completed his double at the Proudstown track when he brought home Tony Martin's Bog Warrior as the 9/4 winner of the two mile steeplechase and the impressive Meath tally of victories was completed in the final race when Nina Carberry won the bumper on board Meade's 4/6 favourite Formidableopponent. That win capped a memorable weekend for Nina Caberry as she got her new sponsorship deal with Fairyhouse Racecourse off to a winning start. The 12-month deal will see Nina Carberry wearing Fairyhouse branded racing clothes in both Ireland and the UK and she will also work with the racecourse to promote race meetings throughout the year. "I am honoured to be sponsored by Fairyhouse Racecourse. I have been coming to Fairyhouse since I was a child. It is my local track and the scene of many happy celebrations for me and my family. Winning the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse last April was the highlight of my career. This is a fantastic sponsorship and I am really looking forward to working with the team at Fairyhouse to promote the racecourse and their top-class race meetings," she said. Navan's next action will be on Sunday 27th November when they host the Ladbrokes.com Troytown Day. The annual feature card of the Proundtown track is once again sure to attract a huge crowd and Navan manager Darren Lawlor is looking forward to a great days racing and entertainment. "The Ladbrokes.com Troytown day is one of our feature race meetings of the year and we expect a good quality field on the track and then the added extra is that it is also a ladies day," he said. "We're delighted to welcome Debbie Harper from Glass Slipper and Mrs Harpers Boutique as our sponsor for this wonderful prize along with MC2 Jewellers and Knightsbrook Hotel & Spa. I'd like to say to the ladies to get together and get planning your day and glamorous outfits now." TV3's Sybil Mulcahy will be Ladies Day judge and the best dressed lady will win a €500 voucher for Mrs Harpers Boutique and The Glass Slipper, a €500 voucher for MC2 Jewellers in Navan and a spa hotel break in Knightsbrook Hotel in Trim.
