Dunshaughlin-based trainer Eddie Lynam was the man making the headlines at York today when he sent out Sole Power at 100/1 to win the Group One Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.

Sole Power stormed home for Wayne Lordan in the five-furlong event as the unconsidered outsider to hold off the challenge of the Johnny Murtagh-partnered Starspangledbanner by a length and a quarter.

Twelve months ago at York, Sole Power finished third in a two-year-old race for Pat Smullen behind Midnight Martini.

A winner twice at Dundalk, once at the end of last season and again last April, Sole Power warmed-up for today's contest with a fifth place finish behind Invincible Ash in a listed race at Tipperary two weeks ago.

Television pundits gave Lynam's horse no chance in the build-up to the big race in which Borderlescott was bidding for a three-timer.
