The u-21 A FC Cup won by Killary Emmets today

Killary win u-21 title

Killary Emmets won the u-21 A FC title today at Pairc Tailteann with a 2-13 to 3-7 win against Curraha.

It was a merited victory for the Castletown / Syddan combination.

Two early wides was Curraha's only return until Sean Keogh split the posts with a fifth minute point.

Curraha produced the better football during that period and Keogh added a second point soon after, but Killary's Jamie McMahon got his side on the scoreboard from a 12th minute free.

Although Killary were enjoying more possession they were rocked in the 14th minute by a superbly-worked Curraha goal with Conor O'Farrell finishing to the net.

Despite the setback, Killary found a good response with a brace of Daire Rowe points (one free) and an excellent Paul Bellew effort that reduced the deficit to the minimum.

As the tempo increased Curraha found the ammunition for another goal following a solo raid by the impressive Brian Murphy who finished smartly with an angled shot along the ground.

The Curraha celebtrations were over as quickly as they had begun when Killary fashioned an immediate response through Bellew's goal.

Curraha kept their composure and Keogh added a brace of points (one free) before Rowe and Mark Phelan (Curraha) traded scores as the clock ticked into first-half added time.

Killary made the most of it with Padraig Dillon's goal restoring parity before Rowe added a late point for a 2-6 to 2-5 interval lead.

The second-half was an excellent encounter with Keogh's point drawing the sides level soon affter the resumption, but Curraha also tallied eight wides with some poor finishing that ultimately proved costly.

Rowe was the key player for Killary in that second-half as he added four points with a brace from McMahon adding to their tally and they did enough to hang on for a hard-earned victory with a late Sean Clare point sealing the title.

Curraha pushed all the way in the second-half and also added a goal from Andrew Battersby to a Jack O'Connor point, but those wides ultimately proved decisive.
