Meath hurlers comfortably defeat Wicklow

Meath marched to a comfortable 3-23 to 1-16 victory over Wicklow in the NHL Div 2B at Ratoath today.

With both sides already through to the final this was an opportunity for both managers, Martin Ennis and Seamus Murphy, to give players in their respective panels a run out.

Meath were dominant from the start and at the interval were already well on the way to victory when they led 3-12 to 1-8.

The home goals came from Luke Martyn, Gary Kelly and Peter Farrell. It was a very fruitful afternoon for Farrell who bagged 1-12 with all but one of his points coming from frees.

Gavin McGowan also made a noticable contribution to the scoring front with four fine points from play.

Michael Cullen (two), Cathal McCabe, David Reilly, Jack Walsh and Eamonn MacDonnachadh also fired over the white spot.

Enda Donohoe was Wicklow's chief marksman with seven points, all from frees while Diarmuid Masterston contributed four excellent scores from play.

The game had all the hallmarks of a challenge about it in the closing stages as both managers brought on substitutes.

The Ratoath club had the pitch in excellent condition for today's game played in pleasant spring sunshine.
