McEntee delighted with attitude following win over DIT

For the second time in four days Meath manager Andy McEntee was hugely impressed by the attituide of his players as he watched they cruise to an impressive 2-15 to 0-10 win over DIT at Ashbourne on Wednesday night.

After the game McEntee spoke to the Meath Chronicle about what impressed him most about Meath's win and he is looking for more of the same in the game against Laois in Stradbally on Saturday night, 7pm.

'I thought the lads application and hunger was fantastic tonight. The physicality was good, their courage and bravery was spot on. There was a lot of mistakes in the second-half when we kicked away a lot of ball, but I thought the intensity of the game was good,' said McEntee.

'Defensively again we looked very solid. Some of our tackling was really good and that is what we are looking for from the players.

'It is fantastic how hard these players are working. As I said on Sunday after the Wicklow game, the attitude has been fantastic and the attitude out there tonight was great. Sure we made mistakes, but it is only the second or third week in January so there are bound to be mistakes.

'I don't think anyone could accuse any of the players tonight of shirking their responsibility. Look at the hit that Ruairi O Coileain took, he ran 40 yards to throw himself at a 50-50 ball and showed great committment.

'All the debutants looked very comfortable. David Toner wouldn't have played at that level before, but he looked good. Others like Bobby O'Brien had a very decent game as did lads like Alan Douglas, James Toher, Brian Power and Donal Lenihan.

'Donal (Lenihan) showed his undoubted class, he just has to get used to being a little bit more clinical, but he had an excellent game.

'We picked up a couple of knocks there tonight. The rest of the panel trained tonight so we will have to wait and see who is available before we sit down to pick a team for the game against Laois on Saturday.

'Another tough game is great and we are hoping to progress because games are what we are looking for,' concluded the manager.
