Curraha show tenacity to overcome Oldcastle

Curraha set up a clash with St Colmcille's when they defeated Oldcastle 2-15 to 1-15 in the IFC preliminary quarter-final at Moynalty.

John O'Brien's side took the scenic route before overcoming Oldcastle with the game going to extra-time.

The sides were level at 1-12 apiece at the end of normal time with Brian Murphy finishing off a brilliant pitch-length move for Curraha's goal on 24 minutes.

Oldcastle found the net when Jason Scully finished from close range with 48 minutes on the clock.

The north Meath side looked like they were going to claim the win but Neil Shortall pointed in the dying seconds of normal time to force extra-time.

Curraha's fitness really told in extra-time. With Conor Moriarty calmly slotting home a penalty in the first half of extra-time, after Ciaran O'Hanrahan was fouled, it was the boys in green and gold who powered on to secure a win.

Oldcastle were reduced to 14 men just before the end but Curraha had victory all but secured by then.

'This team just don't know when they are beaten,' added Curraha manager John O'Brien.
