Delegates told of delays at Co Board meeting

Delegates at tonight's Co Board meeting in Carlanstown at the home of St Michael's GAA club were informed of delays and postponements to the club football championship games scheduled for later this month

The success of Meath hurlers in qualifying for the Christy Ring Cup semi-final on 21st May has forced the postponement of a number of games in the club football championships that were scheduled for weekending 14th / 15th May due to the 13-day rule that applies for preparation of county teams.

If Meath win the semi-final they will be in action in the final on Saturday 4th June and that will impact on the schedule also with club football championship second round games likely to be fixed for late June / early July.

The eight second round championship games that have been postponed are: SFC – Wolfe Tones v Dunshaughlin; Blackhall Gaels v Ballinlough; Ratoath v Dunboyne; IFC – Syddan v Ballivor; Dunderry v Kilmainham, Trim v Walterstown; Longwood v St Ultan's; JFC – Dunshaughlin v Dunsany; Navan O'Mahonys v Clann na nGael.

Infrastructure Committee chairman Noel Dempsey updated delegates on the assessment that is on-going at Pairc Tailteann and indicated that a detailed report wuld be avalable at the July meeting.

“A phased development of the stadium is the most likely outcome,” stated Dempsey.

Meath Crime Prevention officer Sgt Dean Kearns addressed the delegates at the invitation of Meath Co Board with advice in relation to security at clubhouses throughout the county and also on match days regarding players' valuables in dressing rooms.

He also suggested that dressing rooms should be locked at all times and that cars should be parked in a specific area when teams are training.

Clubs organising fundraising events should be aware of security issues that may arise if there is a substantial amount of cash generated on the night and that arrangements should be made in advance.
