Things looking up for Meath Ladies

It has been a tough start to 2016 for all involved in Meath Ladies and there hasn’t been a ball kicked in anger yet.
However, in Navan O’Mahonys last night Meath Ladies reached a full Executive and after a spell where the future of the association in the county was in jeopardy they can now take on the 2016 season with aplomb.
The county senior team won’t have long to wait with Sligo making the journey to Drumree on Sunday for the opening round of the Lidl National Football League, throw-in set for 2pm.
Wednesday evening’s meeting was an emergency one with the positions of Chairperson and Secretary still unfilled after two attempts at an AGM.
Simonstown’s Fearghal Harney put himself forward for the Chairperson’s position and was duly elected. He will be ably assisted by Caroline Flattery and Jackie Sheridan.
Royal Gaels’ Mary O’Regan has been returned as Secretary with Oldcastle’s John Mulvany her assistant. The Fixtures Committee was also ratified with Dunboyne’s Padraig McDermott taking charge of the senior fixtures, while juvenile fixtures will be led by Donaghmore/Ashbourne’s Marian Timmons.
The EGM also ratified the appointment of Eoin Hennessy as Meath senior team manager for the 2016 season. Hennessy hails from Kilkenny and was coach of the Leinster team that claimed the Shield at the Post Primary Schools Inter-Provincial competition in Kinnegad last week. He will be able assisted by John Gorey.
Attention now turns to the opening NFL Div 2 game in Drumree on Sunday. Interim manager Jenny Rispin will take charge of the Meath squad on Sunday to allow the new management view their prospective squad.
Meath will take on Sligo in their opening round fixture and will be eager to get off to a positive start. The 2015 season resulted in one win and a draw and undoubtedly the Royals will be out to put 2015 to bed and begin afresh.
Support will be crucial and Meath Ladies are asking all Royal support to get out and cheer on the team in Drumree this Sunday.
