Newman and mcgill expected to return for westmeath clash

Meath manager Mick O’Dowd revealed some positive news last night with Mickey Newman and Conor McGill both expected to be fit for the Leinster SFC semi-final clash with Westmeath in Croke Park on Sunday 28th June, 2pm.
However O’Dowd doesn’t expect Shane O’Rourke or Conor Gillespie to recover in time to play any part against the Lake County side.
“Mickey Newman had the wire removed from his thumb and now he will have to go through rehab on it, so we will have to see how he reacts over the next week or so,” O’Dowd told the Meath Chronicle last night.
“Shane O’Rourke and Conor Gillespie definitely won’t be back in time for the Westmeath game. We only did a light session on Tuesday and Kevin Reilly did his own stuff at that session, but from what I’m aware of there was no adverse reaction to the few minutes he played.
“Bryan Menton played with a hard fitted piece around the joint that he broke. He was fine to possibly play some part last week and the closer we got to the game the more we felt that he could play some roll. Kevin’s (Reilly) situation is a tough one and it really is left until closer to the day to see how he is feeling and dealing with his injury.
“Conor McGill should be available for the next game too. He had a work accident which was a wound and not a break, that has healed pretty well now so we expect him to be back in contention. He played seven rounds of the league and while he did miss some challenges we have no concerns over his fitness,” concluded the Meath boss.
