Dunboyne open jubilee cup bid with victory

The Meath SHC got underway in Trim last night with Dunboyne surviving a stern test from Boardsmill to open their bid for Jubilee Cup honours with a 3-15 to 2-8 victory.

John Gorry's side had looked set for a comfortable evening with goals from Neil Hackett (free) and Sean Quigley propelling them to a 2-5 to 0-3 lead after just 23 minutes.

However Boardsmill responded positively with Fergal Flatrey and Thomas Leonard, from a well delivered sideline cut, finding the net to close the gap to 2-4 to 2-6 at half-time.

Dunboyne started the second-half in determined fashion and stretched their lead to 3-11 to 2-4 with the help of a Liam O'Brien own goal before Boardsmill responded with four converted frees.

As tensions rose Boardsmill's Bernard McLoughlin saw red in the closing stages and it was Dunboyne who coasted to victory.
