No information available from last nights hurling meeting

Information about the outcome of last night's meeting convened by the Meath Hurling Development and Promotion Committee to deal with the appointment of the manager of the county team is difficult to access although the Meath Chronicle can confirm that discussions on the matter continued for more than two hours at the Trim GAA clubhouse.

The meeting was attended by Meath GAA Co Board chairman Conor Tormey and there was a reasonable turnout of delegates from the hurling clubs, but not all hurling clubs were represented.

The meeting ended at approx 10.30 after starting soon after the scheduled time of 8pm.

However, there is no information forthcoming at this stage although it appears that Kevin Dowd, who was identified two weeks ago as a selector along with Mike Cole, will be a selector. Mike Cole will not be a seletor. Nicky Horan was also mentioned as a possible selector, but is unlikely to take on that role either.

Martin Ennis was put forward as manager, but there were a number of issues arising out of that proposal from the Co Board - one was whether Brendan Dempsey (Co Board treasurer) was entitled to second the proposal put forward by the chairman as he had also participated in the selection process initially.

This may require clarification for GAA headquarters and at this stage it is likely that the matter will be on the agenda again for the next Co Board meeting which is scheduled for Monday 3rd November.

Regardless of who takes the managerial reins of the Meath hurlers for 2015, the more serious question at this point is: Will there be unity amongst all the hurling clubs?

The closing date for nominations and motions for the annual convention (on 1st December) was last Wednesday (15th October) and that information could be made available at the November meeting also once all the various checks are completed.
