Longwood end season with silverware

Longwood brought the curtain down on their season with a 2-14 to 2-9 victory over St Mary's in the A FL Div 4 final at Bective this evening.

Both sides finished a man short with Longwood's Eoin Lynch and St Mary's Stephen Bishop both sent off shortly before the end after a clash between the two players.

Ray Dorran's side comfortably led 1-8 to 0-3 at the interval with their goal scored by Mickey Burke.

Longwood's Nathan O'Brien was fouled in the square and Burke stepped up to take the penalty. His initial shot was saved by St Mary's goalkeeper Derek O'Brien but the rebound fell kindly for Burke who netted.

In the second-half Nathan O'Neill also found the target for Longwood who led, 2-11 to 0-5 after 46 minutes.

However in the closing stages St Mary's staged a storming comeback with Mickey Everard and Richie Moore both digging out goals.

However Longwood held on to claim a precious piece of silverware.
