Castletown ensure ticket to next phase

After leading all the way Castletown ensured that they progressed to the knock-out phase of the IFC when they defeated Ballinlough 1-11 to 0-9 at Carnaross this evening.

Castletown manager Donal Curtis will have mixed emotions after this game as his side played some excellent football but they also spurned very good scoring opportunities.

Castletown were ahead by 1-7 to 0-5 at the interval, the goal scored when a long ball sent in by Robert Hoey from midfield ended up in the back of the Ballinlough net literally seconds before the half-time whistle sounded.

Ballinlough relied on pointed frees from Peadar Byrne to keep them in contention but they couldn't break through for the goal they badly needed.

Instead Castletown added second-half points from Kenneth Smith, Shane Hoey, Kevin Ross and Darren Finney and held on to win.
