Was a Fianna Fail Meath County Councillor from 1991 until 2004, and chairman from 1998-"99. He also chaired the Mid-East Regional Regional Authority. A maintenance fitter by occupation, is married with a family of five. He also has two grandchildren and lives at Rosnaree. Had sought a nomination from Fianna Fail party for the area but was unsuccessful.
