Mortgage arrears code changes

Dear sir - On Friday 13th August, the Financial Regulator announced new proposals to update the existing Code of Conduct on Mortgage Arrears. He called for feedback from interested parties by Friday 3rd September. There are but days to go until that deadline. However, it seems to us that many people are not aware, either of the proposed changes, or of the consultation. The call for feedback represents a rare opportunity for the public to make their views known and help shape mortgage arrears policy for the future. We would therefore like to use your columns to remind people that they can respond directly to the Financial Regulator's call. They are also welcome to visit FLAC's website - www.flac.ie to answer the questions and to submit their thoughts and comments to FLAC. FLAC will then collate submissions received and present them, on the public's behalf, to the Regulator. It will, in addition, make its own submission on the draft code. After Friday, the Regulator will review all submissions before finalising the Code of Conduct on Mortgage Arrears which will be launched in November. Yours, Noeline Blackwell, FLAC Director General.
