Funeral details for tragic Kayla (6) released

The funeral arrangements for tragic six-year-old Navan girl, Kayla Carey, who died last Thursday night after contracting meningitis have been released.

The Scoil Mhuire, Navan senior infant was struck down with the deadly brain bug and passed away in Temple Street Hospital surrounded by her heartbroken family. A 10-year old relation of Kayla's remains in hospital with the condition. The funeral will now take place at St Mary's Church, Navan on Tuesday morning.

Scoil Mhuire principal Colm Devlin in a statement said: "We learned this morning (Friday) of the death of Kayla Carey, a pupil here. This is a terrible tragedy for her family, our school and the whole community. We are deeply saddened by this turn of events. Our sympathy and thoughts are with Kayla’s family and friends.
"Kayla is a senior infant pupil here and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her."
Mr Devlin added that offers of support have been pouring in and are greatly appreciated. He also confirmed that the school has implemented its Critical Incident Management Plan.

 Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons said “This is just such a devastating tragedy, and it has affected everyone in the area, while Mayor of Navan Tommy Reilly said he was "devastated" to hear the news. 

Death notice of Kayla Carey.

The untimely death has occurred of 6-year old Kayla Carey, Reask Crescent, Navan. Suddenly surrounded by her family in Temple Street Hospital. Kayla will be sadly missed by her heartbroken parents Geraldine and Martin, sister Faith, brother Brooklyn, grandparents, aunts, uncles, grand aunts, grand uncles, cousins, relatives and a large circle of friends.

Reposing at her grand aunt Aishling's residence 20 Willow Green, Athlumney Wood, Navan on Monday, 12th March, from 12 o clock until 8 o clock. Removal on Tuesday morning at 9.30 o'clock to St. Mary's Church Navan, arriving for 10.30 o'clock Mass of the Angels. Burial afterwards in St. Finian's Cemetery, Old Athboy Road, Navan.
