Time to register events for Heritage Week

Last year National Heritage Week was Ireland’s most popular cultural event and this year over 450,000 people are expected to participate in over 2,000 heritage events around the country. If you want these people to know about your National Heritage Week event, you need to register it now on www.heritageweek.ie

This year National Heritage Week 2017 (19-27 August) aims focus on all aspects of Ireland’s heritage but with a particular emphasis on our Natural Heritage. The ambition is to encourage more people to not only learn more about Ireland’s extraordinary Natural Heritage but actually get involved with it on an on-going basis. It will be a great opportunity to raise awareness of the threats to our natural environment and encourage small changes that we can all make to ensure the protection and conservation of our environment in the future.

From art to architecture, folklore to placenames, nature is deeply rooted in Irish culture. However it doesn’t matter if your project does not fit into this theme please register it anyway, we welcome heritage events of all kinds.

Each year, thousands of people plan National Heritage Week events in their cities, towns or villages. Over 75% of events are hosted by volunteers or individuals in communities who champion Ireland's heritage in its many forms. Over time it has become Ireland’s greatest celebration of community self belief in their ability to work together to conserve their local heritage. More than anything National Heritage Week is a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on the work of thousands of volunteers who give their time to preserve and promote our natural, built and cultural heritage.

Registration closes for the printed event guide on 31st May.
