School pays tribute to 'gentle presence' Daniel


The death of little Daniel O'Keeffe yesterday just 10 days after his mother Emma lost her life, has left local communities reeling.

Daniel, a pupil at Scoil Naomh Barra, Wilkinstown and his mother Emma  died from injuries sustained in a tragic collision on the Navan/Kingscourt Road at Leggagh, Castletown on 12th January.

Daniel lost his fight for life in Temple Street Children's Hospital on Monday.

A statement from Scoil Naomh Barra said the school was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Daniel O’Keeffe, a 1st class pupil.
'As a school community we will greatly feel the loss of Daniel and miss his quiet gentle presence among us. We will always cherish the many happy memories we hold of him and our sympathy, prayers and thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.
'Psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS) have been supporting and advising the school in our efforts to assist our staff and pupils at this time. The focus of all staff members is on the pupils in the school who are trying to come to terms with this tragedy.'

Daniel's funeral Mass is expected to take place on Thursday at 11am at St John the Baptist Church, Kilberry.
