Trim Vintage & Veteran Car Show on Sunday

This Sunday (18th September) car enthusiasts from around the country will descend on Trim's Porchfields for the 31st Trim Vintage & Veteran Car Show.

Over the years this show has become one of the largest vintage car gatherings in the country, with exhibitors from all over the 32 counties.

Once again, the Garda Helicopter is to make an appearance and there will be the ever popular dog show, side shows, auto jumble and refreshments.

To have a successful, enjoyable and safe day out for all who attend, takes an enormous amount of dedication from a lot of people and at least 35 stewards are needed to run a smooth and safe venue for exhibitors and visitors.

Over the years the committee has found it hard at times to stage the event but has always found a way to make it happen on the day.

Up to four years ago the committee was comprised mainly of members who did not own a classic or vintage vehicle but who had the interest and enthusiasm to run a showcase for people to exhibit their pride and joy.

With the recession, it looked as if the show would not happen in 2012.

When it became apparent that the July date for the show was not about to be met that year the newly formed club Trim Classic Car Owners Club offered their help and in just six weeks a new joint committee set about getting an event to take place in September.

After a hectic few weeks, the show went ahead and proved to be a success. The new committee members being classic car owners themselves had invaluable contacts with other clubs all over the country and sent out a plea for help. They had achieved their objectives and had kept the interest alive and were able to hold the 2013 event back in its normal July slot.

This year the show was scheduled for July and the venue booked. The committee even took a stand at the Vintage Car Show at the RDS to promote their show and had posters and fliers printed up. Unfortunately the Porchfields ended up being double booked with the Meath Heritage Cycle scheduled for the same day and the Trim Vintage & Veteran Car Show moved their date to September.

The committee is hoping that local people will continue to support their show on the new date and as always, proceeds will be donated to local charities.

The Trim Vintage and Veteran Show 2016, a must for all car enthusiasts and a great day out for young and old. Entrance is only €5 for adults, and children under 12 go free.
