Spate of burglaries in Ashbourne district

Extra patrols are being put on in the Ashbourne Garda District in a bid to combat a spate of burglaries over the past two weeks.
In the past week alone, 13 burglaries were reported in the area.
This spike goes against the general trend so far this year which saw a decrease in burglaries in the district. Superintendent Jim Cannon of Ashbourne Garda Station said burglaries for the year to date are down by about 25 per cent compared to last year in the district and that this latest spate was “out of kilter”.
He said extra burglary patrols were being put on from their own resources and also the resources of the regional support unit.
Supt Cannon is appealing to anyone who notices any suspicious activity to report it to Gardai and is urging homeowners to lock their properties securely.
He has also complimented the public who have been contacting them to report suspicious activity and said that while not all reports turn out to be suspicious, they are happy to check them out.
