Meath was at the centre of an epic thunderstorm tonight

Freak thunder storms in the county caused flash flood chaos and power cuts in several areas tonight.

Thunder and lightning and accompanied monsoon-like rain on Saturday evening with Meath Chronicle readers reporting windows rattling from the force of thunder claps.

Extra care was needed on the roads with flooding reported around Navan, Athboy, Kells & Kildalkey.

Louise Clinton commenting on our FB page said 'Windows and doors rattled here in Navan like a mini earthquake. Dog went ballistic poor thing.'

Fiona Carrig caught this snap on the Commons Road

Power cuts were intermittent in Kells, Navan and Newtown Girley. Neringa Vitke in Navan sent us this video.

These were the scenes from Alan Nolan's house in Navan.

Carolyn Clinton sent us a picture of the flooded entrance to her house. 'I used to have a driveway now I have an Olympic pool. Council just did our road and this is the worst it's ever been.'

After a freakish 90 minutes the worst appeared to pass over with the sun making an appearance before sunset
