Are Meath motorists being fleeced with sky-rocketing insurance costs?
Moves are underway to develop a county-wide campaign against what Deputy Peadar Tóibín calls ‘exorbitant car insurance costs’ A public meeting on the issue in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan on Tuesday, 28th of June at 8pm.
“We need to tackle the sky-rocketing cost of motor insurance premiums that has seen some customers’ premiums rise by up to 400 per cent. Action in this area is as long overdue,” said Deputy Tóibín.
He invited motorists and concerned citizens to attend the meeting.
“It’s really important that people attend so we can stop the fleecing of drivers around the county. The dramatic rise in motor insurance has particularly affected young people and those living in rural areas as well as people with older vehicles.”
While the motor industry has claimed that increasing compensation claims, legal costs and other factors such as fraud have led to the hike in costs, Deputy Tóibín questions how drivers who have never had a claim could see their insurance premiums rise by 100per cent.
“It is simply not credible based on the evidence we have that the massive increases are down solely to the factors outlined by the industry,” Deputy Tóibín said.
