New beach warden to be appointed

A new beach warden is to be appointed for the Laytown, Bettystown and Mornington area.

The job will be advertised this week and the new warden will be appointed well in advance of the busy summer season.

Cllr Sharon Tolan said she was delighted that there would now be a beach warden on patrol in these areas.

'We’ve had no warden on the beaches for the past number of years and standards have not been what I would like them to be. This, I am sure, will be addressed over the coming months,” she said.

“We have had to deal with various issues over the past number of years, all of which have impacted on local people and tourist’s enjoyment of our lovely beaches.

“Dog fouling, animal control, littering, anti-social behaviour and cars driving in restricted areas on our beach are some of the problems that developed in the absence of a beach warden.

“I am confident that we are now entering into a new phase in East Meath, where everyone visiting our beaches will be respectful, ensuring these amenities can be enjoyed by all. The presence of a dedicated Beach Warden will now give us peace of mind that those who flout the regulations will be held accountable,” she said.
