Kerry film festival win for norris

Navan-based filmmaker Eamonn Norris won the ’50 Hour Film shoot’ at the Kerry Film Festival at the weekend with his film ‘The Deadline’.

The competition kicked off Thursday morning. Each team had to complete a new film by 12pm Saturday. The films could be any style or genre as long as they incorporated six lines of prewritten dialogue.

Norris shared the award with his fellow team members John McCarthy, Fred O’Connor and David Pembroke. They met on the FÁS Television and Video Production course in Tralee in 2011 and have made other films, which have played at film festivals in Ireland and the USA including ‘Timeless’ which was filmed entirely in Navan.

“It was a great experience competing in the 50 Hour Film Shoot”, says Norris. “We got about three hours sleep over the two days in order to complete our film”.

‘The Deadline’ tells the tale of a screenwriter under pressure to complete a script who keeps getting interrupted by everyday mundane tasks. These interruptions have strange and sinister consequences for his characters on screen.

Norris spent most of 2014 working on the hit CBS cop show ‘Blue Bloods’ starring Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg in New York City. He will next be working in Galway on the popular Irish language drama ‘Ros na Rún’ on TG4 where he worked from 2007-2011.

“I am looking forward to the new challenges ahead in the coming months both in Ireland and the USA.”
