A candlelight vigil was held on the Hill of Tara last Saturday as part of events around the world calling for a climate deal in Copenhagan.

People gathered around the world at over 3,000 events in 139 countries, including Ireland, with one united message: the world wants a real climate deal at Copenhagen.

A candlelight vigil was held on the Hill of Tara, the seat of the ancient High Kings, as the most iconic place in Ireland from which to send out a message of hope for the future of life on earth.

Under a magnificent starlit sky, the group lit candles of hope and participated in a meditation linking to the earth, the cosmos and all those around the world who were also holding candles and praying for the success of the Copenhagen summit. A declaration was read calling for a real climate deal that is "ambitious and will stop and reverse the growth of harmful carbon emissions within five years".

A candlelit vigil was also held at the Hill of Ward, Athboy.
