Donkey and Pony by Hester Heuff.

Hester Heuff retrospective to open

The Office of Public Works is to showcase 'Variations on Form' a retrospective of over 20 years of making by Irish artist Hester Heuff.  The majority of her work has not been seen in a public space previously and this free exhibition in Rathfarmham Castle provides the ideal backdrop in which to view her exciting creations..
The exhibition at Rathfarnham Castle will be opened by Catherine Marshall, Founding Head of Collections, Irish Museum of Modern Art.
Hester Heuff has been working as an independent artist from her studio in Dublin since 2001.  Initially she trained and worked as an aquatic ecologist, switching careers in the late 80s.  Natural processes observed through her work as an ecologist remain integral to her art practice.  These relate to all manner of changes in the world, processes which repeat themselves in cycles like tides, waves, cycles of life and death, changes in time and space.
These processes are further informed by her personal experiences of life examined through meditation and the practice of yoga, highlighting changes occurring not only in nature, but also in the microcosmos of the mind.
Although Heuff specializes in ceramics she works across various media such as batik, watercolour, photography and video. Across these media a playful and intuitive approach remains central to her work.
