Disco Dessie dropped

It was Quarter Final night as our final five couples took to the dance floor hoping to impress the judges and the audience at home to stay out of the dance off.

However one couple had to leave and with Aoibhin & Vitali and Des & Karen in the dance off the judges decided it was the end of the road for Des.

Des has truly entertained the DWTS fans over the last 10 weeks and while his dancing skills had improved he was no match for the consistent performances from Aoibhin.

Julian: 'Des you are a gentleman you came out with heart and soul and I have enjoyed watching you'.

Brian: 'Aoibhin you have been a front runner and tonight was one of your weakest weeks, Des you been a pleasure, Karen you have done a fabulous job'.

Loraine: 'My first time on DWTS will be very memorable because of you'.

Des: 'It’s been fantastic not one bad day or moment, thank you to all who voted for us, and I’d like to thank my family, I haven’t been at home and to Karen..I can’t say it!'

There were extra points to be earned in tonight’s show with the addition of “Ballroom Blitz Marathon”, where all five couples took to the dance floor to 3 minute jive.

One by one they were eliminated by our judges scoring more the longer they stayed on the dance floor.

First to go Des and Karen (scoring one point) next was Aidan and Valeria (scoring two points) followed by Denise and Ryan (scoring three points) Aoibhin and Vitali (scoring 4 points) and the last couple standing and scoring the top 5 points was Dayl and Ksenia!

These points were then added to the overall scores from their main dance!

The guest act this week was Lyra performing Emerald which was featured on an episode of Amy Huberman’s ‘Striking Out’.

On the back of the phenomenal success of RTÉ's Dancing With The Stars, the social media team have quietly been working on some of the most cutting edge content available to Irish audiences.

Best Foot Forward, the live studio show broadcast on Facebook every Sunday has already amassed over one million viewers, averaging over 100,000 per week making the online show a huge success for RTE and ShinAwiL.

The show’s mix of comedy sketches, celebrity interviews and the infamous pro-dance challenge are proving to be a hit with viewers, delivering numbers comparable to traditional broadcast audiences.

The Facebook show is presented by leading social media influencer James Patrice and can be viewed on the RTÉ One Facebook page before and after each episode of Dancing With The Stars.

The unique show is broadcast live and is fully interactive with viewers providing most of the questions for the shows guests.

The tango requires a serious face and some fancy footwork and Aoibhín Garrihy and Vitali Kozmin’s as usual delivered exactly what was required of them, they pared it back to show off what Vitali wanted – an accurate tango.  Aoibhin reckons it’s been one of their hardest dances so far.

Loraine: 'You did it well, however I do think if you had given us more slows and smouldering moments it would have been better'.

Julian: 'That was a fast furious passionate tango, the amount of choreography, for the speed of the routine. Some beautiful lines, as a couple you are unique on the floor, would have been nice for more light and shade'.

Brian: 'Unfortunately for me it was too fast, at times you took a manic approach. You do make beautiful lines when you move, but I would have like to see you take a breath'.

Brian: 8 / Loraine: 8 / Loraine: 9 Total of 25 points

Des Cahill is thrilled to be in the quarter finals and he and dance partner Karen Byrne have thrown everything into this jive Do You Love Me? which viewers will know from Dirty Dancing.

And it seems all the hard work has paid off. This dance showed a huge improvement in Des’ dancing prowess, with fast foot action, lifts and swings, and a standing ovation from the audience.

Julian: 'Nobody puts our Dessie in the corner you were alive and well on the floor tonight. Everything was there, week on week the heart was in it. As for that lift!'

Brian: 'It was packed with energy there were times when the feet were out of time, your little feet struggled to keep up, overall it was good you completely committed to the character.'

Loraine: 'You cannot dispute this is a jive and you come out here with that big heart you give 100% , the upper body moves more than the lower, we need the lower so next week you have your task.'

Brian: 6 / Loraine: 6 Julian: 7 Total of 19 points

Dancing daddy Aidan O’Mahony hasn’t had much sleep this week as he and his wife welcomed their first child Lucia to the world on Thursday morning.

So while he may have been concentrating on daddy duty will his dance have suffered? This cha cha cha choreographed by dance partner Valeria Milova.

Brian: 'I know you were under time pressure this week, we have to judge what is in front of us. The legs were a bit bent at times, that doesn’t help the hip action. I have a concern for you, we are in the Quarter Final and I wonder whether that would be good enough to get you to the semi final?'

Loraine: 'You did have a ten last week, I am pleased with what you did last week you had a lot more hip action, I know those hips can swing more but is it enough?'

Julian: 'I loved the opening and you got into the dance, you had only had 2 days to get it together the hips were stiff, I really hope you are back next week.'

Brian: 7 Loraine: 7 Julian: 8 Total of 22 points

Ryan McShane got a talking down from judge Loraine Barry last week for possibly putting Denise in jeopardy so this week it’s Charleston all the way for Denise McCormack. And this dance duo have come back fighting with great techniques and tonnes of energy.

Loraine: 'I thought that was a super Charleston, it’s such a unique dance, you gave me everything that is in the Charleston all the moves.'

Julian: 'You nailed that Charleston, you both came out fighting. That was a production not a dance, you set up the Hollywood era, those lifts were sublime, the connection between you! You are great together.'

Brian: 'I fully enjoyed the performance, it was perfectly timed all the way though, I enjoyed the slo mo section, it requires more balance to dance slowly.'

Brian: 10 / Loraine: 10 / Julian: 10 Total of 30 points

Dayl Cronin found himself in the dance off last week in a surprise turn of events, this week Ksenia Tzsikhotska has put together some amazing choreography for this paso doble.

Dayl obviously has good knees as he hopped up and down with some amazing knee drops!

Julian: 'One hot fierce paso! Tonight you embodied the role of the matador, you oozed sexuality from all your pores. New fresh creative your knee drops…sublime! Tonight the boy became the name!'

Brian: 'Paso is about being able to concentrate in the moment of stillness, you had the confidence to stand still but the end you were dominating the whole room. My god the energy you created was excellent.'

Loraine:'Tthe setting with the flames was perfect, you really went into the creative side. You had that lovely talk in the body it was super!'

Brian: 9 / Loraine:  9 / Julian: 9 Total of 27 points
