Finbar Furey in Ratoath on Friday
Finbar Furey appears in the Venue Ratoath this Friday, 7th February. After a very exciting few years Furey deservingly grabbed the Number 1 spot in the Irish Charts in September with the beautifully written ‘The Last Great Love Song’. This song was written by Dublin man Gerry Fleming and was the winning song from the RTE series, The Hit. This number one spot has been a long time coming for Furey as it’s been 30 years since his last chart topping position with ‘Sweet Sixteen’ that he and his brothers graced us with in 1983.
Finbar will be releasing the deluxe edition of his highly acclaimed album ‘Colours’ with four new bonus tracks to go alongside many of his greatest hits such as ‘Walking With My Love’ featuring Mary Black and ‘Rivers of Steel’ that features Shayne Ward. This deluxe edition will include the number one hit ‘The Last Great Love Song’ and three other spectacular new songs.
Finbar got bitten by the music bug as a youngster when his father would have friends over to play sessions in their home in Ballyfermot. He took a keen interest in the pipes and spent an enormous amount of time practising and soaking up any knowledge from other pipers who used to frequent his family home. By his teens he had won several All Ireland Medals and he went on to popularise the pipes worldwide while on tour with his brother Eddie in the 1960s. When the younger brothers Paul and George joined them, several years later, success and appeal remained as strong as ever and The Fureys soon reaped their reward and enjoyed a string of best selling records all over the world.
In 1997, with The Fureys at the height of their international popularity and after nearly thirty years as the group's front man, Finbar decided the time was right to follow his own path as a singer-songwriter. It was the ideal climate in which to step aside and pursue his solo career, to present his definitive one-man show and to explore new pastures as a singer, producer and writer.
Not only is Finbar an incredible musician but he is a man of many talents with his role in Martin Scorsese's epic film ‘Gangs of New York’ which saw Finbar happily singing in the bar while all hell broke loose around him. Furey also featured strongly in the Irish film 'Strength and Honour' acting alongside Michael Madsen, Patrick Bergin, Vinnie Jones and Richard Chamberlain, followed by a main role in the Scottish short film ‘Paris/Sexy’, and most recently he has appeared in the highly acclaimed RTE series, ‘Love/Hate’, playing the role of John Boy’s father, Jack.
