Olohan leads cast of McDonagh play

Kells actor John Olohan plays the lead role of Mick O'Dowd in Martin McDonagh's 'A Skull In Connemara', which Decadent Theatre brings to the Ramor Theatre. Following on from the success of productions of 'Doubt' and 'Port Authority' in 2012, Decadent returns to Ramor Theatre on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd February with a tour of McDonagh's play. First performed in 1997 as part of McDonagh's Leenane Trilogy, the play follows Mick O'Dowd, who, for one week each autumn, is hired to disinter the bones in certain sections of his local cemetery, making way for new arrivals. As the time approaches for him to dig up those of own late wife, strange rumours regarding his involvement in her sudden death seven years earlier begin to resurface. Decadent Theatre company's production of 'A Skull in Connemara' features an exciting cast, with some of Ireland's best actors of both stage and screen, as well as fresh new talent. Considering the success of McDonagh's latest feature film, 'Seven Psychopaths', there is bound to be renewed interest in McDonagh's work, which is always popular with audiences. John Olohan has worked with most of Ireland's major theatre companies, including the Abbey Theatre, Livin' Dred and Druid Theatre company. He won the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2011 for his role in Druid's production of 'Big Maggie'. John is joined by Brid Ni Neachtain, who also vast experience in Irish theatre, including recent performances in Decadent's production of Doubt in 2012. Patrick Ryan and Jarlath Tivnan also feature in A Skull in Connemara, both notable young performers. Patrick's most recent role has been alongside John Olohan in 'Ride On!', while Jarlath garnered much critical praise for his portrayal of Piglet in a sell-out run of 'Frank Pig Says Hello' at the Galway Arts Festival on 2012.
