Two injured following incident at Garda checkpoint

Two men were injured in a collision at Garlow Cross outside Navan, last night (Sunday) following an incident at a garda checkpoint in Navan.

Gardai were operating a checkpoint on the R147 at Old Balreask, Navan on Sunday evening at 7.45pm when a car with three males were stopped.

The vehicle suddenly accelerated and pulled away and the gardai followed, but lost sight of the car.

As the gardai approached the motorway ramp, they saw where the vehicle had left the road and ended up in a field.

One of the occupants was picked up walking on the roadway and is due in Court on 9th September on public order charges.

Another man was trapped in the car. He was freed by fire services and taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.

The driver of the car was found in deep undergrowth with what was a suspected broken leg and he was also taken to Connolly Hospital.

All three occupants of the car were from Dublin.
